[Project Background] MTBE (Methyl tert-butyl ether) is a crucial gasoline blending component. PKN, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's SABIC, previously operated a 700,000-ton/year MTBE plant. Expanding its capacity to 1 million tons/year will further enhance its competitiveness in the global MTBE market. Tianchen Company, leveraging its proprietary technology and engineering track record in the MTBE field, successfully secured the EPC turnkey contract for this project.

[Role of the Chinese Enterprise] China National Chemical Tianchen Company (TCC), as the EPC turnkey contractor, is responsible for the project's complete engineering design, procurement of key equipment, and construction. It will also build a new isobutane dehydrogenation unit to replace SABIC PKN's existing facility, while simultaneously upgrading the upstream/downstream n-butane isomerization unit, MTBE synthesis unit, and utilities.

[Scope of Services] L1 Technology License (Tianchen's proprietary MTBE technology) + L4 EPC Turnkey Contract, providing full-process engineering services from the process package to commissioning and operation.

[Significance] Upon completion, the project's MTBE production capacity will become the world's largest single-train facility (1 million tons/year). Its ahead-of-schedule completion and commissioning fully demonstrate Tianchen Company's international competitiveness in the petrochemical engineering EPC sector and further deepen China-Saudi Arabia cooperation in petrochemical engineering.
