[Project Background] Chandra Asri Petrochemical (CAA) is one of Indonesia's largest integrated petrochemical enterprises. This project is the CAA-1 expansion project, aiming to extend downstream development into the chlor-alkali industry to serve the demand for downstream products such as PVC in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

[Role of the Chinese Enterprise] In March 2024, China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd. officially signed a contract with CAA to undertake the construction of a 420,000-ton-per-year caustic soda / 500,000-ton-per-year EDC plant under the EPC general contracting model. Construction is carried out by the Indonesian branch of China National Chemical Engineering Fourteenth Construction Co., Ltd., with formal commencement scheduled for July 2025.

[Project Scale] The 420,000-ton-per-year caustic soda plant will become the world's largest single-line caustic soda facility; the 500,000-ton-per-year EDC plant will become the largest EDC facility in Southeast Asia.

[Significance] This is a landmark project for China Chengda in the Southeast Asian chlor-alkali sector and a significant case of deep market penetration by Chinese chemical engineering enterprises in Indonesia.
