Hubei Dongfang Chemical Co., Ltd. was established in 1993, originally as State-Owned Factory No. 933 (Xiangfan Dongfang Chemical Factory), founded in 1965 during the Third Front Construction period. The company specializes in the research, development, production, and sales of organic solvents—including nitrocellulose, nitro paint thinners, industrial ethanol, ethyl acetate, and acetone—as well as energetic material intermediates. Its products are widely applied in aerospace solid propellants, military initiators and pyrotechnics, high-end coatings, adhesives, and automotive painting. Relying on its Provincial-level Enterprise Technology Center and the Hubei Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Energetic Materials, the company possesses core proprietary intellectual property rights, including continuous nitration technology for nitrocellulose and integrated purification technology for low-impurity ethanol. To date, it has obtained authorization for 12 invention patents and 28 utility model patents, and has led or participated in the formulation of five national and industry standards, including “Nitrocellulose” (GB/T 20820–2022) and “Industrial Ethanol” (GB/T 678–2022). The company holds the Safety Production License for Hazardous Chemicals (EWH Anxu Zheng Zi [2023] No. 07-0047), the National Industrial Product Production License (XK13-014-00152), and certifications for three management systems: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018. In 2024, it completed intelligent safety and environmental protection upgrades, which passed acceptance inspection by the Hubei Provincial Emergency Management Department. Nitrocellulose has long been supplied to research institutes affiliated with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and China Ordnance Industries Group Corporation. Solvents such as ethyl acetate and acetone have passed supply chain audits conducted by international automotive coating manufacturers including PPG and AkzoNobel. Its production base is located in the Shenzhen Industrial Park of Xiangyang High-Tech Zone, serving the East China, South China, and Central/Western China regions, and providing customized products and technical collaborative partnerships for high-end manufacturing, defense industry supporting applications, and new materials applications.
